The Ugliest Little Thing Yet

Harbinger_Flyer_disgustingWith the release of The Harbinger, the 4th story in his Ugly Little Things series, Todd Keisling doesn’t shy away from getting even uglier…and nastier…and decidedly creepier.

The premise sounds innocent enough. Reporter Felix Proust is sent on assignment to Dalton, WV, famous for its line of life-like dolls which have become the town’s bread and butter since the mine closed down in the ‘70’s.

Soon after arriving, Felix begins to see cracks in the sleepy little town’s facade – from the permeating smell of manure to the strange, almost hostile vibe from the town’s children. But Felix can’t exactly ditch the assignment. He’s on thin ice as it is and needs to redeem himself in his boss’ eyes, even if that means putting up with the town’s foul smells and growing apprehension that something sinister is going on behind closed doors.

Solidiering on, Felix encounters one strange incident after the other. But just when he has the sense to skip town and put Dalton and its “special dolls” in his rearview, forces beyond Felix’s control conspire to keep him there. It isn’t until he finally meets Miss Maggie Eloquence herself, the owner of Dalton Dollworks, that he finds out it was no accident that he was summoned to this town, and that his assignment goes much further than just penning an article.

Keisling does not hold back when it comes to penning a skin-crawling, not to mention nose-wrinkling tale. The Harbinger assaults every one of the senses, resulting in a stomach-turning, nerve-rattling tale that channels that classic horror vibe.

This story will absolutely leave you holding your breath, but when you are able to exhale again just remember to breathe through your mouth, not your nose.

About The Harbinger

Welcome to Dalton, West Virginia, home of the famous toy company, Dalton Dollworks. Founded in the late 1970s, the Dollworks has built a reputation around its quaint, lifelike dolls—and now the company is poised to go worldwide.

Meet journalist Felix Proust. He’s been invited to Dalton for an exclusive interview with Maggie Eloquence, CEO of the Dalton Dollworks. Thing is, he’s been in town for all of five minutes and he already knows something isn’t quite right. The stench of manure is everywhere, all the adults seem to be over sixty, and the children regard him with silent contempt.

Felix isn’t about to let this odd town get to him. He does have a job to do, after all. But as the day wears on, Felix learns there’s more to Dalton than meets the eye, and that some dark secrets should remain buried deep in the earth at all costs . . .

THE HARBINGER is the latest entry in Todd Keisling’s Ugly Little Things series, offering a startling new vision of unsettling horror that leaves the reader holding their breath until the very end.
